AI Training Costs in Malaysia: What HRD Corp Reimburses and What Providers Print

The course pages we read rarely print a price. The ceilings that cap an HRDF claim are public, and they decide what a quote can look like.

Updated 27 October 2026

AI training costs in Malaysia are hard to compare because the course pages we read publish a course list and ask you to enquire for the fee. Of the fifteen providers profiled on this site, we found one whose page prints a per-person price that we could read unambiguously. That is a fact about how courses are sold, not a criticism of any provider: in-house fees depend on group size, days and location.

What is public is the ceiling HRD Corp applies to what it will reimburse. If your company is a registered employer paying the levy, those ceilings tell you the most a claim can cover for a given course shape, and a quote well above them means the company pays the difference. This page sets out the ceilings, the one provider price we found, and a way to read a quote.

The HRD Corp ceilings that shape an AI training quote

HRD Corp publishes an Allowable Cost Matrix that sets maximum amounts for training fees. The figures below are from the January 2026 version, which we read on 25 September 2026; the matrix is revised, so check the current version before you rely on a number.

In-house, full dayRM10,500 per groupFull day means at least seven hours of training
In-house, half dayRM6,000 per groupNot more than four hours

How many course pages print a price

Of the 305 AI courses we list, 49 show a plain ringgit amount on the provider’s page as it was last read, and the rest print no fee. Where a fee is printed, the page often does not make clear whether it is per person, per group or per day, so we show it with that warning and you confirm it with the provider.

Set against the ceilings: two days at the public-class ceiling of RM1,750 per participant per day is RM3,500. Whether a specific claim is approved in full is decided by HRD Corp, not by the arithmetic.

How the in-house training ceiling works for a small group

The in-house ceiling is per group, not per person. For a group of 5 or more, RM10,500 for a full day is the cap whatever the group size, so a larger group lowers the cap per head. Below 5 trainees the cap is prorated: RM10,500 divided by 5 is RM2,100 per trainee, so a group of three is capped at RM6,300 for a full day.

If a quote for a two-day in-house course for a group of 12 comes back at more than twice the full-day ceiling, ask the provider what the difference pays for. Travel is a common answer, and the matrix treats airfare and daily allowances separately from the course fee.

Reading a quote

Ask each provider for the same four numbers, so quotes can be compared: the fee for the course, the number of days and contact hours, the group size it assumes, and what is excluded (venue, meals, travel, software accounts).

Then ask what happens if HRD Corp approves less than the full amount, because the company pays the shortfall. And ask when the provider needs the grant application: in-house training can start 14 days after grant approval under HRD Corp’s rule effective 15 June 2026, so a late application delays the date.

Questions

›How much does AI training cost in Malaysia?

It varies by format and group size, and the course pages we read mostly do not print a fee. Where a price is printed, it often does not say whether it is per person, per group or per day. Ask each provider for a written quote against the same course shape.

›Is AI training fully claimable under HRDF?

Not automatically. HRD Corp reimburses up to its ceilings for approved courses from registered providers, and only for employers with levy available. Anything above the ceiling, and anything HRD Corp does not approve, is the company’s to pay.

›Is in-house or public AI training cheaper per person?

For a larger group, in-house is often cheaper per head because the fee covers the group. For one or two people a public class avoids paying for a whole group. Compare the same days and content before deciding.
